The recent leak about USA’s secret monitoring program PRISM has received mixed reactions.  For those who have missed it, here is the background: America’s National Security Agency has been spying on online activities of users especially foreigners by having access to information from global giants like Facebook, Google, Apple, Skype and several other MNCs. This means that this secret department has access to all the cloud data like emails and social media presence. U. S. officials have confirmed the reports of existence of such a spying programme. They have defended it as a programme that is necessary for national security as it helps in investigate and avoid terror attacks.

In keeping with the developments, the Indian government has launched an extensive surveillance program that will give security agencies and even Income Tax officials the ability to tap into private emails and phone conversations.

Needless to say that, this programme is meant for the general good. However, is tapping into personal data acceptable. What about privacy then?
