{"id":87630,"date":"2019-04-16T15:29:29","date_gmt":"2019-04-16T09:59:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.quickheal.com\/?p=87630"},"modified":"2019-04-16T15:29:29","modified_gmt":"2019-04-16T09:59:29","slug":"pcs-fail-boot-freeze-receiving-microsoft-windows-9-april-2019-updates-rebooting-pc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.quickheal.com\/blogs\/pcs-fail-boot-freeze-receiving-microsoft-windows-9-april-2019-updates-rebooting-pc\/","title":{"rendered":"PCs fail to boot up \/ Freeze after receiving Microsoft Windows 9-April-2019 updates and rebooting the PC"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Quick Heal and Seqrite users are reporting that PCs fails to boot up \/ Freeze after installing 9<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0April\u00a0<strong>Windows Updates<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>Rebooting\u00a0<\/strong>the system.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Symptoms:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Users have Quick Heal or Seqrite product installed and running on their systems.<\/li>\n<li>The PCs fail to boot up \/ Freeze after installing\u00a0<strong>Windows Updates of 9-April-2019\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>Rebooting<\/strong>the system.<\/li>\n<li>There are also some instances reported of PCs slow-down especially on Windows 10 1809.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Affected Operating Systems:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>As of now we have cases reported on\u00a0<strong>Windows 8.1 and below (Windows 8\/Windows 7).<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Few cases reported on Windows 10, Windows 2008, Windows 2012 as well.<\/li>\n<li>While we have observed other AV vendors facing similar issues with Windows 2008 and 2008 R2, Windows 2012 or 2012 R2 running on their system.<\/li>\n<li>Windows 10 \u2013 System slowness only.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Windows Updates causing the issue (Under Investigation):\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Windows 7: KB4493472, KB4493448<\/li>\n<li>Windows 10: KB4493509<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Information on Windows 9-April-2019 Update Release:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>For more information on Microsoft Windows 9-April-2019 release notes, click\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/support.microsoft.com\/en-in\/help\/4493509\/windows-10-update-kb4493509\"><strong>here<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Workaround:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Those who have installed these updates but haven\u2019t rebooted their PCs might encounter similar symptoms. As a precaution, we recommend users to uninstall the contentious Windows KB updates prior to rebooting.<\/li>\n<li>Follow the steps listed\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/support.microsoft.com\/en-in\/help\/12373\/windows-update-faq\"><strong>here<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0to uninstall the Windows KB Updates.<\/li>\n<li>For customers affected by this issue, we recommend rebooting the PCs in Safe Mode and Uninstall the Windows KB Updates.<\/li>\n<li>Follow the steps listed below to reboot the PCs in Safe mode and uninstall the KB Updates.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Windows 10 : Click\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/support.microsoft.com\/en-in\/help\/12376\/windows-10-start-your-pc-in-safe-mode\"><strong>here<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n<li>Windows 8 and Below : Click\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/support.microsoft.com\/en-in\/help\/17419\/windows-7-advanced-startup-options-safe-mode\"><strong>here<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Once the Windows KB is uninstalled, disable \u201cAutomatic Windows Updates\u201d by following the steps listed\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/support.microsoft.com\/en-in\/help\/12373\/windows-update-faq\"><strong>here<\/strong><\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>After successful un-installation of the Windows KB updates, reboot the PC in normal mode.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><em>Note: <\/em><\/strong><em>While disabling Windows Automatic Updates is not recommended and should be used only as a temporary measure to avoid download and installation of the contentious Windows KB updates.
