It\u2019s fake!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As India\u2019s Independence Day (15th of August) approaches, messages about free distribution schemes are doing the rounds on WhatsApp.<\/p>\n<p>Just recently, Quick Heal Security Labs detected a widespread circulation of one such message claiming that the Indian government will distribute free cycles to students on Independence Day, under the Free Cycle Distribution Yojana (scheme) Government of India 2018. The message also asks people to fill up a form with their personal details and to share this good news with others as well.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Beware!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This message is fake and part of a scam to steal your personal information. Fake message on WhatsApp<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>Important facts<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>1.\u00a0<\/strong><strong> Government of India\u2019s websites either end with \u201cgov.in\u201d or \u201cnic.in\u201d <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The link in the message is <em><a href=\"https:\/\/http\/\/Bharat-Sarkar.com\/\u0938\u093e\u0908\u0915\u093f\u0932\/\">http\/\/Bharat-Sarkar.com\/\u0938\u093e\u0908\u0915\u093f\u0932\/<\/a>.<\/em> It is not registered on nic.in or gov.in. This questions the authenticity of this website. All government websites\/domains are created and published by National Informatics Centre (NIC) which is the authorized science and technology organization of the Government of India under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2. <\/strong><strong>Government of India (GOI) Web Directory hasn\u2019t mentioned the website displayed in the message <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The National Portal of India (india.gov.in) is the official website of the government of India where all official schemes are declared. The GOI web directory is a one-point source to access all Indian Government Websites at all levels and from all sectors. There is no mention of the website on India.gov.in and this only proves that the WhatsApp message is fake.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Our analysis of the fake link:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>1. Clicking on the link redirects the user to a page which has a picture of Prime Minister Narendra Modi along with a bicycle and a scheme name \u201cPradhan Mantri Cycle Yojana 2018\u201d. See fig 2 below:<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_86570\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-86570\" style=\"width: 548px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-86570\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs_admin.quickheal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Fig-2-548x390.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"548\" height=\"390\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.quickheal.com\/blogs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Fig-2-548x390.png 548w, https:\/\/www.quickheal.com\/blogs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Fig-2-300x213.png 300w, https:\/\/www.quickheal.com\/blogs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Fig-2.png 603w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 548px) 100vw, 548px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-86570\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Fig 2<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>2. The page asks visitors to share their personal information such as name, father\u2019s name, school name, class, address, and state. Once a user is registered, it says they have received your application and to complete the process the user has to forward the message to 10 more people on WhatsApp.<\/p>\n<p>3. The page also has a \u201cTerms and Conditions\u201d section. See fig 3 below. The IP address of <a href=\"https:\/\/bharat-sarkar.com\"><em>bharat-sarkar.com<\/em><\/a> is located in Singapore and hosted under godaddy.com. Doing so might get your device infected with viruses.<\/li>\n<li>Look for spelling errors or anything unusual in links of such messages. Sometimes a link may appear genuine but could be fake in reality.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Important update<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u2022 To reduce the spread of fake news, WhatsApp is limiting the number of times a message can be forwarded\/shared. Users in India will now be able to forward a message to 5 people only.
